There's a new prospect

Google Pages is a recent service that google has tagged onto it's already abundant bag of goodies. What are Google Pages you ask? Well it's a service that let's registered gmail user setup their own personal homepage. It's definitly an attactive webapp that pushes the boarders of Ajax and all that Web 2.0 stuff, but from my point of view it's nothing more than eye candy. At best I'd use it for a resume or maybe even a gateway page(I will get to this later)

You may find it ironic that I'm writing about Google Pages when I'm using Infogami. So let me set the record straight - infogami, although lacking in features, still much better(for me anyway). Why? As Paul Graham might say, it's about flexability and allowing users do what they want rather than telling the customers what they want. I would like to go into great detail as to why I find infogami better, but I'm going to keep it short. The main reason I find infogami better is because I have choices. I'm given a wiki slash blog framework (which I'd like to coin a bliki) which enables me to setup a fairly dynamic site. I have yet to see if I can integrate my own javascript into the site, but if I can then that would give one endless opertunities create one hell of a site.

To take a set back now I'd like to talk about gateway pages, and how google pages have now introduced a potentail hazardous variable into the search engine market for Google search engine result pages (SERPS). As you may or may not have notice this site was created for the solely to compete in the v7n search engine optimization competition for more info. Upon release of Google Pages I tried to setup a v7ndotcom.elursrebmem user so that I could get a cname like domain with google in the url. This was obviously an oppertunity for me to get visibility in to contest. Unfortunatly when I tried to register that user name it was taken. Now if you check out the Google SERPS you'll notice that v7ndotcome.elursrebmem.googlepages.com is ranked #11. Mind you search engine optimization isn't just about having a url with the keyword in it, it's a lot more than that - but by simply having google pages as a starting point the contestant was able to leverage a lot of googlites. This includes a fairly well known domain, a page rank or PR and a well structed html. Earlier when I mentioned Google Pages was useful for no more than a gateway page this is the example I was working off of.

Before ending this entry I would like to ask for peoples help with this contest. If you have a site that is popular or not, could you like to my contest page? Of course if there is anything I can give in return I will. For more infomation on how to help me please see the top page of this site.
